Kevin and Michael Bacon Sing for Culture and Conservation
On October 10, the Bacon Brothers performed a third benefit concert in support of the Trust and the Association for the Colonial Theatre. Playing to a house packed with enthusiastic fans, the Bacons took turns on lead vocals and a wide variety of instruments including guitar, bass, bongos, cello, and cow bell. Featuring their blend of Philly soul, folk and pop, the brothers sang many of the songs on their latest CD, New Year’s Day. To perform the title song, the band was joined on stage by a group of off-duty (sans, there to promote the Brothers upcoming benefit performance to raise funds for support services for the 2010 parade. feathers and satin) Mummer string band captains.
More than 35 individuals and businesses supported the event with sponsorship donations. Lead sponsors included Bentley Systems, New Century Bank, and Ken and Moira Mumma. Before and after the concert, sponsors enjoyed an array of delicious savory and sweet nibbles catered by Ludwigs’ Gourmet Catering while enjoying music by local musician Blanko Dave. The post-concert gathering gave donors a chance to meet the Bacons.
Actor Kevin, who has starred in more than 40 films including Animal House, Diner, JFK, Footloose, Apollo 13, Mystic River, and The Woodsman and older brother, Michael, a music composer for numerous TV and film productions, grew up in Philadelphia and summered with their family in East Pikeland. Michael and his wife, Betsy, still live part-time in the township, on land conserved by the Trust. The brothers have been performing together for 15 years, with the same backup band, and write much of their own material.
