Executive Director Position
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust seeks a dedicated Executive Director with a well-established track record who can further grow and develop this conservation-focused organization. The Trust will consider candidates with a range of career profiles whose core values and leadership abilities match the demands of the Executive Director role. The Executive Director will report to, and work closely with, the Board of Directors to implement the organization’s fundraising and programmatic goals so some experience working in or with a nonprofit Board of Directors is critical.
The responsibilities of the executive director include:
- Provide leadership to our legal, legislative, development, educational, and communications efforts;
- Initiate and promote programs that will further the Trust’s goals and increase membership;
- Develop full scale project plans; plan and manage project timelines and give support and direction to project team.
- Effectively manage and supervise both full and part-time staff;
- Articulate the Trust’s history, programs, and mission to the media and public;
- Serve as an effective and visible spokesperson for the Trust;
- Enthusiastically lead fund development efforts to all donors and especially to major donors;
- Broaden the organization’s reputation locally and nationally;
- Strengthen relationships with our partners and other organizations and affiliates;
- Effectively utilize technology to facilitate organizational operations, including fundraising and public education;
- Manage budget and ensure sound fiscal controls;
- Carry out policies and decisions as directed and approved by the Board;
- Work in partnership with the Board as a whole and with individual Board Members in carrying out the work of the Trust.
- Provide support to the Board in its Board development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in management, problem-solving, and strategic planning in non-profit or public sectors;
- Successful record of effective fundraising, including major donor giving;
- Experience running an organization with at least $1M budget;
- Proven record of creating and implementing programs and partnerships;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in staff supervision and development;
- History of effective communication both verbally and in writing, including public speaking and grant writing;
- Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the Trust’s values, goals, and programs and an understanding of conservation issues;
- Experience with a land trust or other similar conservation-minded organization is desired but not essential;
- Minimum requirements include a BA/BS degree and at least ten years of increasing professional/management experience; advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
